Last Saturday's Local Government Elections: How I Voted

Image
Last Saturday's Local Government Elections: How I Voted I was extremely feeled with joy when I learnt about the movement restriction on Saturday morning. I knew categorically well that it would be the only reason for me to stay indoors on a Saturday. My weekends are the only time I have absolute control over and I like to take care of my private businesses during the weekends. This is because Sterling Bank pays for Monday to Friday but I still need to do my own thing ( One road no enter market, you know ). So, Saturdays and Sundays are dedicated to the young man's private hustle. I am sure my mom was very happy too because all her complaints on the fact that I hardly get any rest always falls on deaf ears. I am not disobedient, I just have to be present in those business meetings and part take in those discussions because you cannot absolutely trust people when that amount of money is involved and so that they can remember your face when the cake is fully baked. So,...

THE FIRE INCIDENT IN CREEK ROAD BRANCH AND LESSONS TO BE LEARNT On Wednesday, 19th July 2017, barely 24 hours after the Nelson Mandela International day celebration (https://shegzsablezs.blogspot.com.ng/2017/07/the-african-leadership-challenge-and.html). A colleague - Jane showed me some pictures of the fire incident in one of our branches - Creek Road branch, Apapa and I was extremely shocked. I saw those pictures and I was terrified. She told me about the incident but in confusing details. I did not have the full details of the incident until I got the mail from Insider but I had to investigate further. I heard a fresh version on radio on my way home from work on that particular day but I still needed more information so I did some additional research, I also purchased a copy of the Guardian newspaper for yesterday where I read a complete version of the unfortunate incident. How It Happened Pandemonium broke out yesterday at Creek Road in Apapa, Lagos when dozens of t...

THE AFRICAN LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE AND THE MANDELA EXAMPLE It is in our hands to make the world a better place - Nelson Mandela Tuesday 18th July, 2017 would mark the 99th post-humus birthday of Former South African President - Nelson Mandela. Since 2009, Nelson Mendela International day is an annual international day in honor of the Late Madiba, celebrated each year on 18 July - his birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first United Nations Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010. Mandela Day is not meant as a public holiday, but as a day to honor the legacy of Nelson Mandela and his values, through volunteering and community service. The Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an impact. On Tuesday, the same day the Madiba would have been 99 years old if he was alive, a session of readings and roundtable discussion on the le...

World Population Day: the Global Challenge of Feeding 9 Billion People in 2050

World Population Day: the Global Challenge of Feeding 9 Billion People in 2050 The world’s population was estimated at 7,137,661,030 on the 1 st of January, 2014; but it is expected to hit 9.1 Billion by the middle of the century. Observers and stakeholders are of the opinion that the population explosion may have some catastrophic effects on human habitation and the continuous existence of our dear planet- Earth. In our desperate bid to survive at all cost, extreme measures and selfish tactics have been employed to provide for the inhabitants of this planet without any serious consideration for the general well-being of the host itself. The effects/results of these actions are far reaching to say the least and they have led to endless episodes of horrible disasters which we continuously witness in disturbing proportions. Global Warming, Gas Flaring and Oil Spillage among other extreme climate issues could annihilate the universe if they a...

GERMANY LEGALIZES SAME-SEX MARRIAGE: LET's DO THE RIGHT THING

GERMANY LEGALIZES SAME-SEX MARRIAGE: LET's DO THE RIGHT THING " Marriage is entered into for life by two people of different or the same sex " Last Friday, June 30th 2017, the same day I posted my article on the Brexit negotiations on my blog (https://shegzsablezs.blogspot.com.ng/2017/06/post-brexit-negotiations-all-hands-on.html). The news of the German Parliament’s vote on Friday to legalize same-sex marriage resulted in jubilation in Berlin and everywhere else across Germany. According to Reuters, when Sarah Kermer - a lesbian proposed to her girlfriend in March, she knew she was in love, but she did not know when, if ever, Germany would allow them to marry. The answer came early Friday morning, when the lower house of the German Parliament voted to legalize same-sex marriage after a brisk but emotional debate, prompting Ms. Kermer and scores of other gay and lesbian Germans to celebrate in the streets. “ I was at work, and I just started crying ...

STILL ON THE ANTI – GAY LAW.

STILL ON THE ANTI – GAY LAW. On the 7 th day of January 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) bill into law illegalizing the act of Homosexuality and the Gay Marriages commonly termed “ Civil Union ” became a criminal offense punishable with 14-year jail term and his action stirred a lot of controversies. For clarity sake, I would like to state categorically that I am not a gay, I have never wanted to be gay and I will never be one. But alas, a critical analysis of this law would reveal that there is more to it than meets the eye because it is not in accordance with what the 1999 constitution stipulates on the right to associate, freedom of choice and rights to privacy and private life. The law criminalizes exclusively the freedom to associate with the members of the GLBT ( Gays, Lesbians, Bi-Sexual and the Transgendered ) community with a minimum of 7 (seven) years imprisonment and what I am eager to ask is, how many years of imprisonm...
