The USA Is Covered With Ice: How People Are Living in Extremely Low Temperatures Down to −58°F

Since January 30th, the
Midwest has been affected by extremely low temperatures, in some places they
were even lower than in Siberia. A strong polar vortex is drifting through
Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois and a state of emergency has been declared
there. In the coming days, a temperature drop down to −58°F is expected.
Weather forecasters say that these weather anomalies happen only once every 50
years.
Bright Side has been following
the developments in Chicago, Illinois and would like to show you how
Chicago-dwellers have survived this historical vortex.
Lake Michigan is covered with
ice.

Hundreds of schools are closed
and more than 1,000 flights have been cancelled.

People are trying to protect
themselves from frostbite.

Snow clearing services are
operating at their full capacity.

The National Weather Service
has called this weather “a historical event.”

But people have tried to stay
positive and have come up with a lot of memes.
They enjoy the view of frozen
spaghetti.
They do challenges with
boiling water spilled in the freezing cold.
They take photos of everything
covered with ice.
They wear warm clothes.
They get to know their city
from a new angle.
And they call their city
“Chiberia.”
Chiberia = Chicago + Siberia
