SATURDAY NIGHTS WITH SPARKS
It is another Saturday
night, so... I will share this extremely embarrassing moment I had some years
back when I travelled to Portharcourt to visit my cousin (clears throat)....and
as late as 10:00pm, I started throwing tantrums...
Of all things to
ask for, it was ice-cream....and I wasn't pregnant, just cravings of a spoilt
daddy's girl. My cousin finally agreed to go out with me to get some ice-cream.
I quickly wore a micro mini-short and a sleeveless top and jumped into the car.
The idea was that I would sit in the car while he stepped out to buy my
ice-cream.
We went round the
town till we located one place; others were closed since it was pretty late. I
need to describe this place. It is at a popular location where night crawlers
wait for "customers". It
was at this same location I realized for the first time we had male night
crawlers too.... "I’m speaking too
much grammar abi?...in simple English, It was an "Ashawo" junction.
GBAM!!"
I was not bothered
neither did I judge them. I was so excited as we strolled into the place, I
wasn't shy because we were the only customers...So nobody was "looking" at me. I took two scoops
of ice-cream with a tinge of alcohol in it and a lot of M&M topping...
People of God I was in cloud 16. Trouble started for me when we got back to the
car and it wouldn't start. AHHHHH!!! I almost died!! How?? Why?? Of all days???
Nobody on the road except our night crawling people.
Men and Brethren!!!
I came down from the car and pushed!!! The shame was mindblowing!! If I was
wearing trousers, I wouldn't have felt bad, but with what I was wearing, there
was no difference between me and my night companions... As if that wasn't
enough....Cousin was now making fun at the top of his voice...saying "madam talk fast fast!!! how much for the
night?" I died and woke up.
We finally got a cab home sha. I learned a
valuable lesson that night. Be considerate and learn to be thoughtful. If I had
thought about the risks of going out late at night for something as petty as
ice-cream, I would have saved myself the trouble we went through.
As you work and
relate with colleagues and other members of the pubic, show empathy;
1.
BE
CONSIDERATE - Try to put yourself in their
shoes. Let go of things that can cause friction between both of you. Overlook
annoying comments from people that can push you over the edge, they may be
going through something rough.
2.
BE
RESPONSIBLE - Drop immature acts, carry
yourself with dignity. Don't do anything you will be ashamed of. Dress decently
and...don't pilfer cash. Do not be insubordinate.
In all, contribute
your quota to make the world a place...
