BIBLE TEACHINGS WITH JOEL OSOBA
Hi dear friend, Welcome to today’s reading. I’d love you to know that my dedication to writing
is fueled by the joy that you’d be here to read; but much more is that you will
find these simple thoughts and lessons I share to be helpful. Therefore, thank
you for reading and thoughtfully sharing with someone that comes to mind.
A while back, I took
some time off to spend the weekend at a friend’s place, to clear my head, read
and pray; while I was there, I learned the very practical and simple lesson on how
to let Jesus take the wheel.
I had been in some
struggle and in that time the story of Paul the apostle came alive to me and it
helped me come to a place of rest and dependence on God instead of striving for
perfection by my self-effort.
One of Paul’s
struggles is recorded in 2Corinthians 12:6-10. He narrated how he begged the
Lord in earnest prayer for help but the Lord replied saying “My grace is sufficient for you and my
strength is made perfect in your weakness”.
The response from
Jesus gave Paul a new perspective so that what he was formerly struggling with
became what he now started rejoicing in and leaving in the hands of God with
absolute dependence.
There are three
lessons I learned from Paul’s story and today as you read through, they will be
one of the best things you’ve learned about living to please God and have a
peaceful conscience.
Hit
rock bottom: You need to realize that by yourself
and the exercise of your will-power you can’t achieve the perfection God wants
and expects from you; therefore, you need to SURRENDER. You need to kneel down
before God inside your heart or inside your room and tell Him you surrender
from TRYING to please Him. You stop and sing the song “I surrender”. Having done this, you do the next thing;
Hand
over the wheel: After surrendering you rise up from
your knees with a song of thanksgiving. The way you hand over the wheel to
Jesus is by giving thanks and praises to Him for His love and perfect work of
the salvation which He did for you when He died on the cross and rose again on the
third day. You give thanks to Him that His sacrifice on the cross has set your
course in life on the path of perfection and that He alone can finish what He
started. Therefore, He should take the wheel and perfect you by Himself. You
handover the wheel of your life to Jesus by acknowledging Him as the only one
that can make you perfect and you do this through thanksgiving. You maintain
this spirit of thanksgiving and then you do the next thing;
Fix
your gaze on the light: With no personal effort except
fixing your gaze on the light you will come into a place where the Grace of
Jesus will enter into you in sufficient amount and without any struggle you
will become strong and outgrow your weaknesses. As you fix your gaze fully and
absorbingly on the light that comes from the face of Jesus, you will be changed
to become like Him and you won’t have to struggle anymore. Jesus is not
struggling with anything, therefore as you become more like Him your struggles
fade away.
To access the light
from the face of Jesus you do two things every day. (a) Pray and ask God for
the light that comes from the face of Jesus to transform you. Pray with a
sincere heart and with an expectation asking for a light. (Check out the prayer
in Colossians 1:9-13). The answer to that prayer will be seen when you do (b)
Open your bible and read. The light from Jesus’ face that will change you will
come from inspirations you get from the pages of your bible. So, pray and look
into the light. Do this every day and you will be surprised how peaceful your
life, and heart will become within 3 weeks without any struggle. Remember the
song that says “Turn your eyes upon
Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of earth will grow slowly
dim, in the light of His glorious grace.”
If you stumble during
this process and make some mistakes, don’t quit. Just get back up, ask for
God’s forgiveness and repeat the process from 1 – 3 and continue throughout
your life. God is love and He keeps no records of your wrongs.
This was the lesson I learned a while back, and that is how to give Jesus the wheel so that He can
continue and finish what He started in your life.
Surrender, give thanks,
fix your gaze on the light. I hope that blessed you. Let me know how it blessed
you and how it blessed someone you shared it with.
Thank you for your
time and thank you for staying tuned; for commenting, subscribing and
sharing the lessons with others till Jesus has the wheel in all our lives. God
bless you!!! And Jesus is Lord!!!
