INSIGHTS ON LIFE

What is Enlightenment?

Someone asked the question: "what is enlightenment? I hear people talk about it but no one shows how to do it!"

I responded that "You have to light the candle yourself."

The gurus, the sages, the mystics, the spiritually conscious, will tell you things that exist in this House called Creation, but it is you who would have to light a candle to see what has been hinted to you.

Socrates said "I cannot teach anyone anything. I can only make them think".

Enlightenment is coming into Light and becoming full of it. Whereas ignorance is seen as the dark fiends of the mind, the light is the liberator which delivers the soul from the fetters of ignorance and illusion that keep it bound. This comes about through much reflection, thinking, observation, meditation, through one's life.

The purpose for the religions, the sects and mystery schools was to help humanity liberate itself from darkness. Unfortunately, some of the doctrines of these faiths and movements have further kept much of humanity in the dark.

How does one become enlightened? It is to want to be. Recognizing that you are in want of truth and wisdom and that all you have been told is inadequate to elevate you, you seek to know, to understand, so that your life can be better.

We all carry the capacity to know truth. We all hold unlit candles. We only need to light our candles to help us see through life. A sage, a guru, a mystic, your parents, a friend, may light your candle with their flames, but you will have to protect the flame from going off and then by yourself navigate through this maze called life in order to know, to be enlightened.

What is enlightenment to you?
