The seven most amazing theme parks in the world
The first theme park ever
built was the now world famous Disneyland, which opened its doors in 1955. It
took several decades before similar places started emerging around the world,
but today there is a huge variety of theme parks out there for you to enjoy:
fairytale ones, those based on films and dinosaurs, and many more. And it’s no
secret that plenty of adults enjoy them as much, if not more than their kids
do.
Here’s our pick of the seven
most amazing theme parks from around the world which we think every family
should visit.
The Wizarding World of Harry
Potter
There are currently two Harry
Potter theme parks, and both of them are located in Orlando (Florida, US). In
the first park, the village of Hogsmeade from the novels has been recreated in
stunning detail:
In the second park, you can
find additional locations such as Diagon Alley and Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
Universal Orlando Resort has
promised to open a third park soon, which will offer a chance to see a fantasy
version of King’s Cross Railway Station and that famous platform 9 ¾.
J.K. Rowling was directly
involved in the creation of the park, so you should have absolutely no doubts
that your visit will be full of miracles and magic!
Hobbiton Movie Set
Every lover of Tolkien’s books
dreams of visiting this park. This magical world of hobbits was created
especially for filming The Lord of the Rings and can be found in New Zealand.
The small town was built in
1999. Director Peter Jackson was flying over New Zealand in a plane when he
noticed a spot of land out in the wilderness which appeared to be the perfect
for creating this crucial location for the movies.
After filming ended, the
village was left empty and about a third of the hobbits’ houses were
demolished. However, in 2011 several of these constructions were restored in
order to make the new Hobbit movie, along with additional houses. Finally, when
shooting for The Hobbit drew to a close, the Hobbiton set was turned into this
entertaining and beautiful park for tourists.
The Little Prince Theme Park
In France, you can find a
whole park dedicated to the hero from the famous novella written by Antoine de
Saint-Exupéry. This one in particular boasts a special feature making it unique
compared to other theme parks...
Here, the landscape has been
designed to depict the various fairytale worlds found in Saint-Exupéry’s book.
Visitors have the chance to fly up in hot air balloons to marvel at these
picturesque surroundings at a height of over 150 meters above the ground.
In addition, this park is home
to numerous foxes. Visitors are able to play with them as well as feed them.
Among the other interesting attractions available here are the opportunity to
have an interactive conversation with Saint-Exupery’s characters, which were
created using computers, as well as aviation-themed rides. Every visitor has
the chance to fly in a biplane!
Legoland
Legoland includes a whole
chain of Lego-themed family theme parks located all over the world. These parks
are built entirely out of Lego bricks. The first and largest park was opened in
1968 in Denmark.
There are five other Legolands
in the world today: in Germany, the UK, Malaysia, and two in the United States.
It’s amazing to see how such
incredible constructions have been made entirely out of Lego bricks. There is
even a reconstruction of Las Vegas made out of 24 million bricks!
The Legoland parks are divided
up into various areas, each of which is intended for children of a certain age.
However, the models are so
impressive that adults usually have just as much fun as their kids do.
Prehistoric Valley
The Prehistoric Valley theme
park is located in the south-east of Cuba. There are more than 200 models of
dinosaurs here, along with those of other prehistoric animals, each of which
has been sculpted according to their actual size.
Dinopark
Another interesting place
dedicated to the wonder of the dinosaurs is located in Munchehagen, Germany.
This is, in fact, the biggest theme park in Europe.
There are more than 220
dinosaur models constructed in line with what is known to have been their
actual size. It must be said that these are no ordinary models — they all look
seriously realistic!
Efteling
Efteling is a theme park of
real wonders and magic. We even go so far as to say that it is, perhaps, the
most impressive one on this list.
This amazing place is located
in Kaatsheuvel in the Netherlands. The park consists of a central area and four
different and diverse ’realms’: the Fairy Realm, the Adventure Realm, the
Alternative Realm and the Travel Realm.
Originally the central idea
behind Efteling was to depict old European fairytales and myths and their
characters. But over time it has turned into a full-fledged amusement park with
some great attractions. But the fantastical elements of the park still remain
the most important aspect.
