POEMS BY ONE MICIAIAH
Men
of a Kind
When a man like me
chose to decide who a man of God should be like, I am usually disappointed when
I read about those God Himself chose as His own person. Really, I am always
disappointed. If I were to exempt some sets of people from the people of God,
the first set would be the Armed Robbers, Killers, Thieves, Rapists, and the
likes, because these people are continuously committing the sins of either
killing or stealing or both.
The second set would
be the Adulterers, Fornicators, Prostitutes, etc. Reason? They are very bad
people whom Moses declared stoned to death if any of these acts is found in
them back in the days. They are actually that bad. The third set being the
Policemen, Soldiers, and all other military personnel because these set of
people are like the most corrupt people in the world. They can do and undo
anything. I once saw a soldier beat up a mallam before for no justifiable
reason. I think they are just constantly delighted in making other people pay
for what they are to be blamed for or not.
I was utterly
astonished though, when Jesus told a member of the first set of people while on
the cross of Calvary that, “…today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” The
wonderment took another turn when this same Jesus said unto a heavily condemned
adulterer, a member of the second set, that, “I do not condemn you… go… sin no
more.” Hmm.
I remained highly
stupefied when a member of the third set, a very high-ranked member of the set,
was also referred to as His. He is a centurion, also the captain, of the band
called the Italian band. The bible described him as a certain man living in
Caesarea. He was further characterized as, “A devout man who venerated God and
treated Him with reverential obedience, as did his entire household and he gave
much alms to the people and prayed continually to God.”
These thoughts alone
led me to the reality of who God’s people can actually be like. In the Acts of
the Apostles 10:34, 35 where Peter was led to teach the people he referred to
as ‘common.’ He understood and said, “God is no respecter of persons, but in
every nation, he that feareth Him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with
Him.”
It is in this light I
am saying, if a soldier, a centurion for that matter, can fear God and even
work righteousness in Him, every other person has no excuse to becoming God’s
person, especially when all you need is just ‘fear Him and work in His
righteousness’.
May the Lord help us
all. Amen!
