MANAGING
CONFLICTS
Conflict
is a situation where there is opposition or disagreement between two or more
people. This may be due to a lack of communication, differences over certain
ideas, issues, beliefs, and thoughts.
There
are several ways I have learned to manage conflicts and I am going to share them
with you.
It
is advisable to use words like "I understand", "I agree”, “what
you are saying is fine" and then you go ahead to put forth your point.
This will make things better and lead to a healthy discussion without giving
room for any sort of conflict. We must try as much as possible to mind the
language we use when trying to resolve any issue.
Conflict
is one thing human beings find difficult to manage because it's mostly
stirred up as a result of anger. It is very important that we learn to control
our anger so it would be easier to resolve any form of conflict.
It
is also important to note that you should not try to resolve conflicts over
non- personal communication modes like e-mails, text messages, and notes. This
is because people tend to interpret these modes of communication in a different
way. For instance, the way I interpret a WhatsApp message sent to me differs
from the way the sender or another person may interpret it. I may see the
message as impolite while the sender may not look at it from my own point of
view. It is best to communicate in person or at least over the phone.
The last thing to note in managing conflicts is being able to control your anger or
frustration. I have stated this earlier but I would like to buttress my point
again.
Sometimes,
it is better to be silent and let some time pass by so that you can look at
things more objectively.
Keep
no room for any kind of attitude or problems. Be humble, intelligent, understanding,
a good communicator, and the rest will fall in place.
